Corrosion of conventional concrete reinforcement in underground car park floor slabs, caused by chloride-containing meltwater seeping in, leads to spalling of the concrete. The corrosion also impairs the load-bearing capacity of the reinforcement. The maintenance of floor slabs is time-consuming and costly.
With Combar®, Schöck offers a reliable and durable solution for corrosion protection: concrete reinforcement made from glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GRP) is chemically resistant and rust-free. Autobahn Süd Bayern GmbH, a federal government agency, has now used this material for the first time in the construction of emergency walkways in the Tutting motorway tunnel.
The emergency walkway, spanning a length of 225, was constructed using Combar®, which is characterised by unique material properties. Combar® achieves a service life of 100 years in concrete, as certified by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). The use of this rust-free reinforcement reduces maintenance costs, increases the durability of structural elements and thus makes an important contribution to sustainable construction.
A further advantage is the significantly lower weight of Combar® compared to steel. The installation of the reinforcement in the emergency walkway in the Tutting Tunnel therefore proceeded without any problems.
