Cassiopeia, Wehrmathen District

In the Wehrmathen residential area in Berlin-Schönefeld, a total of 483 apartments are being built under the supervision of DIBAG Industriebau AG. For part of the Cassiopeia neighborhood, the Glöckle Group opted to trial Isokorb® IQ K as a solution for the retroactive, thermally separated connection of precast balconies.

The focus was on ensuring the construction process was as flexible as possible: the shell of the building was to be completed without depending on precast deliveries, and balcony installation was to be consolidated and carried out without scaffolding. In collaboration with Schöck, the construction plans for the floor slab and the two test balconies on the top floor were adapted, the structural analyses were performed, and the installation was prepared.

The potential of the Isokorb® IQ K became evident during installation: The precast reinforced concrete balconies were lifted into place by crane, mounted onto threaded rods that had been embedded in concrete beforehand, and assembled dry using bolted connections. The actual connection process for each balcony took only a few minutes, and the balconies were immediately ready to bear full loads. No scaffolding or temporary supports were required.

Isokorb® IQ K thus enables a more flexible structural shell construction, allows for balcony installation at a later stage, and offers additional design flexibility—for example, for offset balcony positions or connections at great building heights. The result of the pilot project: an economical, safe balcony connection that is particularly appealing for serial and modular construction with a high degree of prefabrication.
