Schöck Thermal Bridging Solutions at AIA 2012 in Washington

Schöck will present the Isokorb® product, a load-bearing thermal insulation element for the connection of cantilevered concrete components such as balconies, porches or canopies. Isokorb prevents thermal bridges – weaknesses within a building's structure where heat and/or cold is transferred at a substantially higher rate than through the surrounding envelope area. This is achieved by forming a thermal break between the balcony and the interior floor while transferring load and maintaining full structural integrity.

Compared to non-insulated connections, the Schöck Isokorb® element achieves a 90 percent reduction in thermal conductivity in the connection area for standard load-bearing scenarios. The benefits of Isokorb® meet key objectives of the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for buildings.  Furthermore, Schöck Isokorb improves comfort, as heat is retained near balcony entrances inside apartments.

Schöck's exhibit booth 3621 will feature product displays for practical demonstrations of Isokorb® type CM for concrete-to-concrete connections and Isokorb® type S for steel-to-steel connections. Product experts will be on hand to explain Isokorb®'s performance attributes and product capabilities.

This will be Schöck's second year participating in the AIA National Convention.

Schöck is joining the efforts of AIA|DC to give back to the community with a donation of a flat-screen television to the Visual Language Lab project to benefit Phelps High School—a Washington, D.C., magnet public high school with a curriculum in architecture, engineering and other construction-related professions.
