Schöck Releases First Sustainability (ESG) Report

Schock Bauteile GmbH, world leader in the development and manufacture of building components for thermal insulation, impact sound insulation and reinforcement technology, has released its 2022 Sustainability (ESG) Report detailing the performance and management of the company’s progress in achieving its Environmental, Social and Governance goals. This is the first ever Sustainability Report published by Schöck, several years in advance of Germany’s mandate to report ESG goals by 2026.

Since its founding more than 60 years ago as a family business, the company has prioritized safeguarding of the environment by making buildings more energy efficient, so sustainability is in Schöck’s DNA—and at the forefront of wide-ranging initiatives to stay ahead of the curve.

Dr. Harald Braasch, Chief Technical Officer of Schöck AG, says, "Germany aims to stop emitting greenhouse gases by 2050. In the first step, emissions must be reduced by around 60% by 2030. Schöck aims to get there faster. The goal is to be climate-neutral by 2025. We are currently working out a detailed roadmap for this.”

The ESG report offers an overview of the company’s sustainability goals, measurements and management systems, covering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Some of Schöck’s ongoing fields of activity include:

  • Optimized delivery routes by using regional suppliers
  • Compliance with ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 50001 (energy management) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) standards
  • Waste reduction and safe disposal methods
  • Resource-efficient manufacturing processes
  • Use of renewable, reusable or recycled materials whenever and wherever possible
  • Expanded renewable energy use, specifically photovoltaic projects
  • Heat recovery systems within production processes
  • Employee awareness and training in a broad range of topics including sustainability, diversity, professional development and a healthy work-life balance
