Concrete is a construction material that has become an indispensable part of the modern world. In addition to its extraordinary durability, concrete is also highly malleable and has a high compressive strength. This construction material has poor tensile strength, however. Tensile forces first lead to cracks in concrete and then cause the component to fail.

Such forces are usually caused by bending and transverse forces and must be compensated for in the concrete by appropriate reinforcement.

Depending on the component and area of application, there are certain requirements that can only be met with special reinforcement elements and materials.

In flat slabs, for example, there is a high concentration of shear forces around the columns, which can lead to punching. This problem is solved with the Schöck Bole® punching shear reinforcement.

When installing concrete slabs, expansion joints are required to effectively prevent cracks caused by shrinkage or temperature movement. Schöck Dorn shear force dowels offer an efficient solution for the transmission of shear forces in expansion joints.

The reinforcement material usually used in concrete components is reinforcing steel.  However, steel reaches its limits if there are special requirements for corrosion protection, electrical conductivity, magnetism, machinability, or thermal insulation. In these cases, the Schöck Combar® glass fiber composite offers a superior alternative. These special requirements exist primarily in the application areas of tunnel construction, and the construction of tram systems, electricity infrastructure and research facilities.
