Reinforcement and lost formwork in concrete slabs

Building slabs are constructed in various ways. The special properties of steel-reinforced concrete slabs make them superior to other types of slab. As a result, steel is the most common reinforcement used for concrete slabs.

In addition to adaptable design possibilities, reinforced concrete slab has high load-bearing capacities and can be produced in long spans. It also has a high level of sound proofing and fire protection.

As reinforced concrete slabs are expensive to manufacture, product solutions are needed to streamline the production process. These include reinforcement elements to prevent punching shear, strong connections in expansion joints or prefinished formwork for slab edges.

Reinforcement of point-supported slabs

Among steel-reinforced concrete slabs, the flat slab without inner joists or column head reinforcements has gained acceptance due to its simple formwork and reinforcement layout.

Around the point supports, however, there is a risk of punching shear in the slab. With appropriate reinforcement elements, shear forces can be absorbed and punching shear can be prevented.

Expansion joint constructions

A zero-stress transfer of shear forces occurring in expansion joints is associated with a great deal of time and effort, especially when systems such as corbels or slide bearings are used. Shear force dowels represent a far less complex solution.

Prefinished formwork

Formwork is used to give concrete components their shape on construction sites and in precast factories. In many cases, the formwork is removed after the concrete has hardened. There are also applications where it makes sense to use concrete formwork. This remains permanently in the structure and gives it a particularly attractive appearance with an exceptionally good surface quality. The use of this formwork combines optimization of the construction process with economic advantages.

Schöck’s efficient solutions

As punching shear reinforcement, Schöck Bole® increases the load-bearing capacity of point-supported slabs and thus eliminates the risk of punching shear. The ready-to-install reinforcement element consists of double-headed bolts held in the correct position by spacer bars. With technical approval, Schöck Bole® is the reliable and effective solution.
